Microsoft has just ended the private beta testing phase for Office for Android. Since yesterday it is possible to download the Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications for free on an Android tablet without prior registration.
As Microsoft has just announced on its blog, the three flagship applications of Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are now free to download from the Play Store. They are still in preview version - and therefore potentially bugged - but seem perfectly functional. As is, they allow you to create and edit text documents, spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations without requiring a Microsoft account or any other form of constraint.
These three applications are however intended only for tablets. And the minimum specifications are pretty high. To install these applications, you must have a device with a screen between 7 and 10,1 inches, must be installed under Android KitKat or Lollipop and must be equipped with an ARM processor and at least 1 GB of RAM. Suffice to say that these applications are reserved for recent or high-end tablets.
