Preliminary information
Prima di enter the live tutorial, walking to spiegare how to activate dark mode on WhatsApp for Android, there is some preliminary information that it is my duty to provide you.
First, know that dark mode - otherwise known as dark theme, black theme o night mode - as well as being beautiful to look at and making WhatsApp more appealing on the smartphone on which it is set, it has a very specific utility: given its shades, it allows you to make your eyes rest more of users, especially in the evening and at night, during which ambient light is poor.
Combined with the above reason, dark mode comes in handy as it allows you to reduce energy consumption on the device on which it is used, at least on smartphones with OLED and AMOLED displays, since with black the pixels of the screen go out, since each is self-illuminated.
Another relevant information about the dark theme then concerns its activation mode. On devices updated to Android 10 and later versions this is automatically applied to WhatsApp, as long as it has been previously enabled in the device settings.
On smartphones that mount Android 9 or earlier, on the other hand, the dark mode must be activated manually within the messaging app, by acting directly on the relative settings. Also keep in mind that, in order to apply the black theme on WhatsApp, it is essential that the latest version of the application. How to activate dark mode on Android WhatsApp
Having made the necessary clarifications above, let's get to the real heart of the matter and let's find out what are the operations that must be performed to activate the dark mode on WhatsApp for Android. Find all the details below.
From the Android settings
If what you are using is a smartphone equipped with Android 10 or later versions, you can make WhatsApp apply dark mode automatically, by acting on the operating system settings. How? I'll point it out to you immediately.
To enable the dark theme, take your smartphone, unlock it, access the home screen or drawer and select the icon of Settings of Android (the one with the ruota d'ingranaggio). On the screen that is subsequently displayed, touch the item Screen e carries his ON l'interruttore che trovi accanto alla voce Night mode, to enable the dark theme right away.
If you wish, you can also have dark mode automatically enabled at certain times of the day. To do this, tap on the item Night mode present in the settings section above, brings up ON l'interruttore che trovi accanto alla voce Activate as scheduled on the next screen and decide whether to enable the dark theme from sunset to sunrise or whether to set a custom schedule, by selecting the option you prefer from the menu you see appearing below. If you choose to enable custom scheduling, you will also be asked to specify the start and end times for using the theme.
After completing the steps described above, all you have to do is go back to the home screen or the Android drawer and start WhatsApp, by selecting the relative icon, in order to use the application using the automatically applied dark theme. It was easy, wasn't it?
Clearly, in case you have to think again, you can disable the dark theme by acting on the Android configuration and, consequently, also on the appearance of WhatsApp, by going back to the section Settings> Display of the device and bringing it up OFF the switch in correspondence with the wording Night mode.
If you have activated the dark mode programming, instead, go to the section Settings> Display> Night mode e carries his OFF the switch next to the wording Activate as scheduled.
Please note: the indications I have given you regarding the items that must be selected in the Android settings in order to enable the dark theme may differ slightly from what you see on your mobile phone screen, depending on the brand and model of the same, as well as the exact version of the operating system used. For your knowledge, I used a Samsung Galaxy S9 updated to Android 10.
From the WhatsApp settings
If you are using a mobile phone with Android 9 or a previous version of the operating system installed, however, in order to enable the dark theme on WhatsApp you must go to act on the application settings. How you do it? I'll explain it to you right away.
To begin with, take your device, unlock it, access the home screen or drawer and select theWhatsApp icon. On the main screen of the application that is shown to you at this point, tap the button with i three dots vertically present in alto a destra and selects the voice Settings give the menu check if you press.
On the next screen, tap the word Chatwhy are you cheating? Subject e seleziona l'opzione Dark from the menu that appears, then tap on the item OK, to confirm the changes made.
Should you have second thoughts, you can restore the default WhatsApp theme by tapping the button with i three dots vertically at the top right, going back to the section Settings> Chats> Theme application by selecting the option Chiaro from the menu and pressing on the item OK, to confirm the changes.
