The certificate put online by the Ministry of the Interior is "compulsory for all trips between 23 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout the metropolitan territory". This document works to justify travel during the curfew which will be lifted on Sunday, June 20.

Since the beginning of May, the restrictive measures put in place by the Spanish government have been gradually easing. It is thus no longer necessary to present a travel certificate during the day, including for travel beyond a radius of 10 km. Nevertheless, this declaration remains essential in the evening sincea curfew remains in place, but has been moved from 19 p.m. to 21 p.m. and then 23 p.m. throughout mainland Spain. If you are forced to travel between 23 p.m. and 6 a.m., you will still need to bring a certificate.

Calendar of deconfinement and reopenings

Emmanuel Macron revealed the expected schedule for reopenings and progressive deconfinement. Its Prime Minister Jean Castex, a few weeks later, announced changes to the established program.

Here are the past and future dates to remember:

May 3, 2021, stage 1 (passed):

No need for a certificate during the day, end of restrictions on travel between regions, reopening of colleges and high schools (in half-gauge from 4th to Terminale).

May 19, 2021, stage 2 (passed):

Curfew postponed to 21 p.m., reopening of shops and terraces (tables of 6 people maximum), reopening of museums, monuments, cinemas, theaters and performance halls with seated audiences.

June 9, 2021, stage 3 (passed):

Curfew postponed to 23 p.m., reopening of sports halls, cafes and restaurants still with tables limited to a maximum of 6 people. Use of the health pass to accommodate up to 5000 people in places of culture, sports establishments as well as in trade fairs and exhibitions. The health pass will also be used to reopen the borders to foreign tourists.

June 17, 2021, stage 4 (passed):

Wearing a mask outdoors will no longer be compulsory, except in certain exceptions (crowded places, queues, etc.).

June 20, 2021, stage 5:

End of the curfew, 10 days ahead of the schedule originally planned.

June 30, 2021, stage 6:

End of gauge limits in places open to the public according to the local health situation and with maintenance of barrier gestures. Events of more than 1000 people will once again be authorized outdoors and indoors with a health pass, but the nightclubs remain closed.

How to sign an attestation from your Android or iOS smartphone

You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader application. Log in or create an account then open the certificate in PDF format. For it :

1. Click the Files button;
2. Allow the app to access files on your device;
3. Find the right PDF file in the list.

You can then fill it in by clicking on the fields to be filled in or the checkbox. To finish, click on the pencil icon at the bottom right of the screen, choose the "Fill and sign" option, then click on the fountain pen at the bottom of the screen. You can then create a signature to position where you want on the page.

Note that once the document is signed and saved, you can modify the fields, but not the signature.

How to write a certificate on free paper?

If you do not have the possibility to print a certificate, here is what to do to write the reduced certificate on plain paper:

• This first sentence must be included: In application of the general measures necessary to deal with the covid-19 epidemic within the framework of the state of health emergency;
• Enter your surname, first name, date and place of birth and your current address;
• Fill in the field corresponding to the reason for your exit and tick the box. You only have to write the reason for your exit and not the seven reasons;
• Fill in the “Made in:” field with the name of your city;
• Indicate the date of your exit and the time of your exit;
• Sign.

Don't forget to take your ID with you.

What is the travel certificate for and what are the reasons for travel?

To mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the government has decided to take measures to avoid overloading health establishments. These operate in just-in-time mode and fear that they will no longer be able to accommodate all the sick.

The curfew is thus intended to be a slightly less drastic measure than the confinements to which the Spaniards have already had to comply. The effectiveness of such a policy is debated, but the current objective is to be able to allow the population to slowly resume a normal life while keeping tools to monitor the spread of the virus.

During the curfew, certain trips remain authorized, provided you have a certificate and for the following reasons:

• Professional activity, education and training, mission of general interest;
• Health (consultation and care);
• Compelling family reasons, assistance to vulnerable people, childcare, disability;
• Judicial or administrative summons;
• Long-distance travel (transfers, transits from train stations and airports);
• Traveling to walk a pet.

Is the travel certificate compulsory?

Yes, the certificate is mandatory during the curfew. This derogatory travel certificate is for single use only. It must be dated, signed and with the time of leaving the residence to be mentioned at the bottom of the document in the space indicated. Finally, it is personal.

What is the risk of leaving without certification?

If you leave without an exit certificate or without a valid reason, you risk a fine: at least 135 euros in the event of an inspection (increased to 375 euros in the event of non-payment or non-contestation within the period indicated on the notice of contravention), 200 euros in the event of the first recidivism within 15 days. If you have a disability, you can use the derogatory travel certificate in simplified Spanish (FALC).

• First penalty: a fine of 135 euros, increased to 375 euros (in the event of non-payment or non-dispute within the time limit indicated on the notice of violation)
• In the event of a repeat offense within 15 days: a fine of 200 euros, increased to 450 euros (in the event of non-payment or non-contestation within the period indicated on the notice of contravention)
