AdwCleaner is a free and effective tool for cleaning a computer. How to use it ? Answer in this tutorial, which will be followed next week by another dedicated to Malwarebytes and other similar software.
Due to a lack of care and protection, sometimes malware infects a computer. They originate from browsing online harmful sites, downloading files from unknown sources, email attachment, and even from USB, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connected devices.
Malicious software (often called malware) can have various forms and effects:
- Viruses, which reproduce within files on the same computer
- Worms, which reproduce from one computer to another, in a local network or on the Internet
- Trojans, which hide within a healthy program
- Keyloggers, which intercept keyboard activity to retrieve usernames and passwords
- Spyware (spyware), which recovers the user's personal data

- Ransomware, which encrypts part of the system data and demands a ransom to recover the files
- Browser hijackers, which hijack browser activity by changing the homepage and other settings.

Computer disinfection using AdwCleaner
AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes are two software developed by Malwarebytes, and allow you to quickly and free clean your system of all unwanted programs. We explain this week how to use AdwCleaner. We will return next week specifically to Malwarebytes.

You can download and use AdwCleaner for free in portable form (it does not require installation). Once downloaded, right-click on the file and select the "Run as administrator" option, which should appear in the second position of the context menu. The software opens and immediately offers to perform the system scan.

Without any user action, AdwCleaner does its cleaning job in seconds. If he did not ask for validation before quarantining items, he offers to view a report of his activity in plain text format.

In our case, the program detected obsolete registry entries and quarantined them. They are thus deactivated and pose no threat. But if you want to get rid of them at all costs, you can use AdwCleaner's "Quarantine" page to delete them instantly. Simply click on the button in the top left corner of the table to select all entries, then click on “Delete”.

AdwCleaner being a portable application, it is not designed to perform scheduled scans, you must always perform a manual scan. However, the software offers to adjust its parameters, to define the actions to be carried out during repairs. These parameters affecting specific functions (proxy settings, TCP/IP, hosts file, IPSec, firewall, etc.), we only recommend their use to experienced users.
