If the mentions docx, xlsx and pptx are not familiar to you, remember that to know which application it should launch when you double-click on a file, Windows relies on the extension of the file name: it is 'a suffix consisting of a dot followed by a few letters, often three or four letters (.docx for a Word file, .jpg for a Jpeg image, .exe for software, etc.).

How to convert a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file for free with an online service?
This solution is especially interesting if you want to continue using your office applications – even if they are not all new –, if you only have a few file conversions to do – otherwise, the service becomes chargeable –, and if the files to be converted are not confidential, because you are going to entrust them to a website. This is our favorite solution if you can't afford the paid version of Microsoft applications: install a free Microsoft Office compatible suite on your computer (Windows, macOS, Linux) or your iOS/Android smartphone or tablet. This will allow you to open and edit documents that were designed with recent versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
